It is time to say farewell to passioantespirituality.com in it's current form. The next phase of passioantespirituality.com will be rolled out with the next expression of the southside.ca website. This site has helped us focus on one of the areas of missional practice that we believe God has called us to. It has been a place for me to articulate core convictions and wrestle through what I believe God is calling us to as a community through the practices of living him with all of our hearts and expressing that in community together.
In the mean time I will communicate through a passionate spirituality blog at
I will move some of the stuff from the PS web over to the blog and otherwise it will show up again under southside.ca.
Site will be offline sometime around the end of the month.

As they began to sing and praise... |

Being a Southside Lead WorshipperThe first in series of resoruces meant to facilitate dialogue and reflection amongst out music team. One of my favourite passages of scripture as it pertains to worship is 2 Chronicles 20. Jehosaphat is the King of Judah and is facing a troubling time. A vast army is coming upon them. His strategic response probably would not be found in many war strategy books. But Jehosaphat seems to understand something of the nature and character of God.Take a few minutes to read 2 Chronicles 20.
Reflect on a few aspects as you are reading the narrative.
What must King Jehosophat believe about the nature and character of God?
What is the activity of the Spirit in this story?
How do you think the singers felt as they were put at the front of the army?
As they begin to sing and praise the Lord... (2 Chron 20:22) God is active. There is something very tangible that happens when God's people worship him. Here we see a corporate song having incredible power, but the action of singing is preceded by prayer, fasting, prophecy, discernment and leadership that understands the character and nature of God. Personal Questions: What are you learning about the character of God these days? How are you learning it?
What kind of preparation do you engage in to prepare for leading worship?
What is your role as it pertains to leading worship as part of the Music Team?

I came across this Advent prayer this season that has really gripped me.
We give you thanks for the babe born in violence.
We give you thanks for the miracle of Bethlehem, born into the Jerusalem heritage.
We do not understand why the innocents must be slaughtered;
we know that your kingdom comes in violence and travail.
Our time would be a good time for your kingdom to come,
because we have had enough of violence and travail.
So we wait with eager longing, and with enormous fear, because your promises
do not coincide with our favourite injustices.
We pray for the coming of your kingdom on earth as it is around your heavenly throne.
We are your people grown weary with waiting.
We dwell in the midst of cynical people, and we have settled for what we can control.
We do not know that you hold initiative for our lives, that your love planned our salvation
before we saw the light of day.
And so we wait for your coming, in your vulnerable baby
in whom all things are made new. Amen.
(From Walter Brueggemann's book, "Awed to Heaven, Rooted in Earth”)
